In the Championship divisions (1A, Y) there will be a 1-minute preliminary freestyle to qualify the top players into the freestyle finals. The top qualifying players in each division will be advanced to the 3-minute Freestyle Final. Each competitor will have 1 (or 3) minutes on stage to perform a freestyle in the style of play in the division they have entered. Players may enter more than one division.
The 1A division (open to all ages) consists of the use of one yo-yo. Contestants will perform freestyle that they have created to music of their choice. They will be judged by a panel of judges on such criteria as speed, choreography, originality, etc.
The Y division (open to all ages) consists of all other types of play (e.g. counter-weight, off-string, 2A). Contestants will be performing freestyles judged on similar criteria to the 1A division.
For the Sport Division ladders, players are allowed one attempt per trick. The second missed trick retires the player from the ladder. The winner is the player with the highest score.
For scoring, a player receives the point value of the number of the highest trick completed in the ladder. In the event of a tie, the score of the first missed trick from the ladder will be used. If a tie persists, then the score of the second missed trick from the ladder is used. If a tie still is in place, then the two (or more) players are awarded the same placement.
